Scientific breakthroughs often require compelling visual communication to reach a broader audience. For this project, ETH Zurich required a cover image for a research publication featuring a microscopic robotic system developed by their research team. Our role was to translate the highly technical concept of a micro-scale robotic device into a visually striking representation suitable for a scientific journal cover. The process involved developing a detailed 3D representation of the robot and designing a surrounding visual environment that communicated the device’s scale, function, and technological sophistication. Particular attention was given to composition and material representation to create a balance between scientific accuracy and visual impact. The final image placed the microscopic robot front and center, presenting it as the focal element of the research breakthrough. Delivered in collaboration with Designing Alley, the visual was used as the official cover artwork for the research publication, helping communicate complex scientific work through an accessible and powerful visual medium.
