This project involved designing a laboratory bioprinter device starting from a very early conceptual stage. The research team at ETH Zurich approached us with a developed idea and the technology and its intended use, but the product itself had not yet been visually or ergonomically defined. Our role was to translate this early concept into a coherent and functional product design. The process began with ideation and exploration of different design directions, considering usability in laboratory environments, manufacturability, and the visual language appropriate for advanced medical equipment. Once a design direction was finalized, we developed detailed CAD models and explored CMF (colour, material, and finish) options to establish the product’s physical and aesthetic identity. The final stage involved producing high-quality product renders that clearly communicated the design concept to stakeholders and researchers. Completed in collaboration with Designing Alley, the project helped transform an abstract technological idea into a clear product vision that could support further engineering development and communication.
